El Yunque National Forest
El Yunque National Forest, located at the northeast corner of Puerto Rico, El Yunque rain forest located in the Loquillo Mountains, about an hour drive from San Juan. Host to more than 240 species of trees (23 from the unique El Yunque), 50 species of birds (including rare and endangered Puerto Rican parrots), and over 1200 species of insects, El Yunque rain forest recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere reserve official in 1976.
